Mission until 1993 (Panel 2)

Since the Second World War ended, the Italian Armed Forces have been engaged in International Missions all over the world in order to preserve, maintain and restore peace.

These are Operations and Missions carried out under the aegis of the UN, NATO and, today, also of the European Union (first European Community), conducted in areas of the globe of strategic interest for the nation.

Wherever the Italian Armed Forces have been called to intervene, the Italian Army has always had the opportunity to play a leading role. The Italian soldier has ceaselessly worked with awareness and professionalism, helping to restore stability, security and development in all those areas tormented by the war and thus gaining the attention of the whole world and international public opinion.

Most significant Operations abroad where the Italian Army took part were:

• Operation "UNMOGIP", India and Pakistan, 1 January 1949 - ongoing

• Operation "UNTSO", Middle East, 1 January 1958 - 26 March 2015

• "UNIFIL - LEBANON 1" mission, Lebanon, 23 August 1982 - 11 September 1982

• "UNIFIL - LEBANON 2" mission, Lebanon, 24 September 1982 - 6 March 1984

• Operation "UNTAG", Namibia, 30 March 1989 - 7 April 1990

• "UNOCOA" mission, Afghanistan, 30 March 1989 - 14 October 1990

• "HERONE" mission, Kurdistan, 3 May - 1 August 1991

• "PELICAN" mission, Albania, 16 September 1991 - 3 December 1993
