THE MISSIONS AFTER SOMALIA

The Italian Army contributes to the realization of international peace and security. It participates, in the context of international crisis management, in crisis prevention and management operations outside the priority intervention areas, in order to guarantee international peace, security, stability and legality, as well as the affirmation of fundamental human rights, in the spirit of the Charter of the United Nations.

OTHER ARMY MISSIONS

State defense

It consists in defending the State against any possible aggression, to safeguard: the integrity of the national territory, the vital interests of the country, the security of areas of national sovereignty and of compatriots abroad, the security and integrity of communication routes of access to the country.

Defense of the Euro-Atlantic and Euro-Mediterranean spaces

It consists in contributing to the collective defense of the Atlantic Alliance and in maintaining stability in the affected areas on the Mediterranean Sea, in order to protect the vital or strategic interests of the country.

Support and specific tasks

It consists in contributing to the safeguarding of state institutions and in carrying out specific tasks in circumstances of natural disaster and in other cases of extraordinary necessity and urgency.
